KOALA Hall of Fame

The KOALA Hall of Fame was introduced in 2001 to recognise books that had never won KOALA but had demonstrated enduring popularity with young readers in New South Wales by being shortlisted 5 times in 10 years.

The most popular title in the Hall of Fame is Wombat Stew by Marcia Vaughan and Pamela Lofts. Between 1997 and 2001 it was shortlisted 13 times. Other popular titles are Koala Lou by Mem Fox and Pamela Lofts and The Cabbage Patch Fib by Paul Jennings, both of which were shortlisted 10 times.

In recent times once a title has been shortlisted 5 times it is added to the Hall of Fame and no longer eligible to be shortlisted. This helps to keep the shortlist fresh.

In 2015, Con-Nerd and Thai-riffic! by Oliver Phommavanh were honoured with Hall of Fame status.

Oliver’s books have been constant shortlisters over the past five years. Con‐nerd was shortlisted in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Thai-riffic was shortlisted in 2011, 2012 and 2013 and received an Honour award in 2012 and 2013. In 2013, both Thai-riffic! and Con-nerd featured on the shortlist. Quite an achievement! Both of these titles will still be eligible for nomination until they are separately shortlisted for 5 years.
